Finding the correct scope mount for the CZ 557 can be a little tricky due to the rather unique 19mm dovetail on the receiver. We have taken a look at the various options available and put together a guide that presents the more popular on the market today.
The CZ 557 is a centrefire bolt action rifle that is an upgrade of the popular CZ 550 version with some notable differences.
The 557 is equipped with a push-feed action system which differs to the controlled-feed action of the 550.
What still exists on the 557 is the 19mm dovetail on the receiver. The bases that once would have fit the 550 will also fit the 557.
Short-action models are chambered for .243 Win. and .308 Win. Long action models are available in .270 Win., .30-06 Sprg., and 6.5x55.
Listed below is a comparison of some of the scope mounts and bases that are available for the CZ 557. We have included a brief overview of the main important features for each as well as the MSRP provided by each manufacturer.

Warne CZ 550 QD Matte Rings
These CZ rings are sturdy steel in a split vertical configuration that can handle large, heavy scopes and strong recoil.
The Warne CZ Rings are able to fit directly onto the receiver’s dovetail with no need for a mounting base. This provides a more streamlined set-up of your optics.
The quick detach rings fit permanently to the receiver with T-15 Torx style socket-cap screws. They may be detached and reattached with no loss of zero.
The medium rings fit scopes with an objective lens between 24-52mm. The high rings fit objective lens 50-56mm.

Contessa Standard 20 MOA Picatinny Rail
This is a precision made steel Picatinny rail from Italian company Contessa and fits the CZ 550 Standard Caliber rifle which should also fit the standard CZ 557.
The length of the rail is 174mm and the build height is 12mm. The distance between the bases is 81mm so it is important to check that this gap is compatible with your receiver.
It features a cut-out section at the rear base.
The mount is designed for longer shooting situations with the built in elevation inclination of 20 MOA.
Burris CZ-Style Scope Rings
Here is another scope base that consists only of the rings, made to be attached directly to the receiver without the need of additional hardware.
The Burris scope rings are machined from solid steel for tremendous strength and durability. They will handle the most severe recoil shock very nicely.
The rings have a diameter of 1 inch and are designated as medium height rings. At this stage we have been unable to ascertain the exact height this equates to.
The matched top and bottom offer consistent strength and a precise fit.

Farrell Industries CZ 550 Safari Picatinny Rail
The Farrell Safari Picatinny rail is milled from solid bar stock and is notably a thicker dimension than you might find from other manufacturers.
This means the required height of the rings mounted on top will be lower.
The added height of the rail means that there is more room provided for porting the underside which eliminates ejection issues that might otherwise occur due to lack of clearance.
A notable difference with the Farrell rail is that it requires drilling and tapping of the receiver with the hole spacing as follows: 1st to 2nd hole=.600"; 2nd to 3rd hole =4.365"; 3rd to 4th hole = .700".
Get a qualified gunsmith to drill and tap the receiver and install the mount.
This is an extremely rigid mount owing to the added thickness which promises to enable your chosen scope to provide maximum performance.
The rail is available with either a 0 MOA, 10 MOA or 30 MOA compensation.

We have provided a strong mix of scope rings and Picatinny rail bases to demonstrate the different ways in which your scope may be mounted on your CZ 557.
The way you set up your rifle is a matter of personal preference and either method will provide a strong base for your scope.
It is important to pay attention to a few factors:
- Make sure you buy a base that matches the action length – long or short
- If you’re planning on shooting longer distances you will probably need a Picatinny rail that has some additional elevation. That might be 10 MOA or 20 MOA but ensure you’re buying the version of the rail that has that extra lift.
- The height of the rings is important. They are made in a variety of heights to help with objective lens clearance and with getting the right cheek weld.
The scope base or mount should be the lowest cost part of putting a scope on your rifle.
Make sure you've got the crucial details correct before you buy so you don't have to go through the process multiple times before you get it right.
