There is an old adage that you get what you pay for and this is certainly the case with the OpenShot SD Climbing Treestand from Summit Treestands. Although it may appear, at first glance, that this is a very expensive option, when you look a little more closely at the range of features it offers, it becomes clear that it will be money well spent. A lot of effort has gone into ensuring that the weight is minimized while durability and strength is maximized.
This Is A Lightweight Tree Stand
The freedom of mobility is one of the reasons why climbing tree stands remain some of the most popular on the market. It is this mobility that the Summit Treestands OpenShot SD Climbing Treestand provides. The stand weighs in at a measly 15 pounds and even though it appears to be a very compact design there is still a great deal of comfort to be had from the seat. The platform is a 4-channel aluminum frame that features the Sound Deadening technology to maintain the stealth of the unit.
As a hunter there are times when it is essential to stand and take a shot and with the OpenShot it is possible to fold the seat up and stand against the tree directly on the platform. It is this type of versatility that gives this particular tree stand an additional advantage over some of the others.
Included with the unit is a full-body safety harness. This 4-point safety harness provides you with the type of safety feature that will ensure complete security when in place high above the ground. The stand itself comes with a green utility strap and an umbilical rope as well as RapidClimb stirrups to ensure that it will be securely attached to the tree.
As mentioned earlier, the mobility factor plays a big part towards making this a treestand worth buying and the weight is only one factor here. Another is the compact nature of the unit when it has been folded up and it is completed by a set of comfortable padded backpack straps.
Of course, this is a tree stand that will help you climb into place and so, once you have found a suitable tree that has a smooth trunk of consistent diameter, you can quickly assemble it as you prepare to get into position. To aid in the process of climbing the stand up the tree the stand comes with RapidClimb Stirrups as well as 2 QuickDraw coated steel climbing cables. Extruded-aluminum Summit Lokt construction locks ensure that there is plenty of strength to provide you with a solid platform upon which to perch. Before commencing the process of moving the stand up the tree it is very important that the full-body safety harness has been properly fitted and is securely attached. The climbing process is a very simple one thanks to the superior construction and design.

For those who are concerned with the comfort factor of the seat, it is well padded and the dimensions are 18” x 12” which should give plenty of surface area for the majority of bodies. The platform measures 20” x 20.75” which allows for plenty of room to comfortably stand (with the padded seat folded up) and with the 4 channel frame it will feel comfortably sufficient when sitting and waiting.
This stand has been fully tested to TMA standards and the maximum weight capacity of this treestand is 300 lbs.
